Anthony van Dyck painted the mythological scene of drunken Silenus held up by two bacchantes. The fleshy figure of Dionysus's companion sags between his supporters. Van Dyck's Baroque energy brings the Bacchic procession to life.
The artist learned from Rubens how to paint such sensuous mythological subjects. This work hangs at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels.
