Russian artist Konstantin Korovin painted this marine scene in 1880, capturing life aboard a ship. Figures gather on deck as light plays across the wooden planks and rigging. The loose brushwork and attention to atmospheric effects reveal his emerging Impressionist sensibility.
Korovin became one of the leading figures of Russian Impressionism, known for his vibrant use of color and light. This early work dates from his student years at the Moscow School of Painting. He would later design sets for the Bolshoi Theatre and the Paris World's Fair.
