by Konstantin Korovin, 1890
In 1890, Konstantin Korovin painted this vibrant scene of Parisian café life, capturing the energy and color of the French capital. Figures gather at tables while the city's lights and atmosphere create a sense of festive modernity.
Paris transformed Korovin's art. "Paris was a shock for me... Impressionists... in them I found everything I was scolded for back home in Moscow," he wrote. His café scenes combine Russian sensibility with French technique. It hangs at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
