Sebastiano del Piombo painted these organ shutters for the church of San Bartolomeo in Venice. When closed, the panels display religious imagery appropriate for the sacred musical instrument. Sebastiano's Venetian training shows in the rich color and monumental figures.
Sebastiano later moved to Rome where he became friends with Michelangelo. These early Venetian works demonstrate his mastery before that transition. Displayed at the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice.
