The Vienna Museum documents the history and culture of Austria's capital from Neolithic times to the present. Founded in 1933 by historian Hans Pemmer, it occupies a building on Karlsplatz and preserves paintings, photographs, maps, fashion, and everyday objects that chart Vienna's development as a cultural center.
The collection includes works that capture Vienna's artistic golden ages, from the Baroque period through the Secession and early 20th-century modernism. The museum shouldn't be confused with the Kunsthistorisches Museum, which houses the Habsburg imperial art collections in a separate building on the Ringstrasse.
