by Edvard Munch
Norwegian artist Edvard Munch painted this scene of gamblers at a roulette table in Monaco. Anxious faces cluster around the spinning wheel, caught between hope and dread. Munch applied his psychological insight to this theater of chance.
The Norwegian painter often depicted emotional extremes in public settings. This work is held at the Rasmus Meyer Collection in Bergen.
