by Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch composed this Morning in 1884, showing a young woman sitting on the edge of a bed in soft daylight. The work predates his famous Frieze of Life series but already shows his interest in psychological states and the poetry of ordinary moments.
The painting demonstrates Munch's early naturalistic style before he embraced Expressionism. Light filters through a window, illuminating the figure's contemplative pose. Munch would later describe how illness, madness, and death shadowed his childhood. This quieter work reveals his ability to find meaning in stillness. It hangs at the Rasmus Meyer Collection in Bergen, Norway.
