by Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch completed this Street Lafayette during his time in Paris, capturing the bustle of the famous boulevard from a high vantage point. The colorful scene shows pedestrians and carriages flowing through the urban landscape.
Munch's Parisian period exposed him to Impressionist and Post-Impressionist influences before he developed his mature Expressionist style. The heightened viewpoint and cropped composition show his absorption of modern techniques. This work hangs at the National Gallery in Oslo.
