Copy of Raphael's Cherub

Gustave Moreau made this copy after a cherub by Raphael. The French Symbolist painter studied Old Masters throughout his career. This academic exercise shows his technical training.

Moreau later developed his distinctive jewel-like imagery of mythological subjects. This copy is displayed at the Musée National Gustave Moreau in Paris.
