John Constable painted the view of East Bergholt Rectory in his native Suffolk. The familiar landscape of his childhood appears with fresh observation. Constable's devotion to his local scenery became legendary in English art.
He once wrote that the Suffolk countryside made him a painter. This intimate study hangs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
