Konstantin Korovin completed this scene of Russian northern life, capturing the distinctive light and landscape of the region. His loose brushwork and attention to atmospheric effects reflect his position as Russia's leading Impressionist painter.
Korovin traveled extensively in northern Russia and Scandinavia, drawn to the region's unique qualities of light. He combined French Impressionist techniques learned in Paris with distinctly Russian subjects. It hangs at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, which holds the world's finest collection of Russian art.
