Drapery for a seated figure

Leonardo da Vinci created the study of drapery for a seated figure with extraordinary attention to light and shadow. The fabric folds are rendered with scientific precision, showing how cloth behaves over a form. Such studies prepared Leonardo for his painted works.

These drapery studies were training exercises in Verrocchio's workshop. Leonardo's analytical approach transformed a simple exercise into art. This work is held at the Louvre in Paris.
