Rembrandt created A Village with a Square Tower in 1650, a small landscape measuring 9 x 16 cm. A church tower rises above clustered buildings in this rural Dutch scene, catalogued as Bartsch 218 in reference works on Rembrandt's etchings.
These small landscape works were produced during Rembrandt's mature period when he took frequent walks in the Dutch countryside. He captured modest rural architecture with the same attention he gave to more ambitious subjects.
