Boats in Sunlight

Umberto Boccioni completed this boats catching the sun in this work that predates his Futurist period. The shimmering light on water shows an Impressionist influence before Boccioni embraced dynamism and speed. Color and atmosphere dominate the scene.

Boccioni would later become a leading figure of Italian Futurism, but early works like this show his traditional training. The painting remains in a private collection.
