Christ Church at the University of Oxford houses one of Britain's finest private picture galleries, displayed in a 1968 building designed by Powell and Moya. The collection originated with a 1765 bequest of 200 Italian drawings and has grown to include old master paintings and works on paper.
Highlights include drawings by Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael, and paintings by Tintoretto, Veronese, and Van Dyck. The college chapel doubles as Oxford's cathedral, the smallest in England. Christ Church's Tom Quad, the largest quadrangle in Oxford, and its connection to Lewis Carroll (who taught mathematics here) attract visitors beyond the art collection.
