Musée Rodin

The Musée Rodin occupies the Hôtel Biron, an 18th-century mansion in Paris's 7th arrondissement where sculptor Auguste Rodin kept a studio from 1908. Rodin donated his collection to the French state in 1916 on condition that the building become a museum of his work, and the museum opened in 1919. A major restoration ran from 2012 to 2015.

The museum holds roughly 6,600 sculptures, 8,000 drawings, and thousands of photographs and decorative objects, many displayed across the surrounding gardens. Signature bronzes include The Thinker, The Kiss, and the unfinished The Gates of Hell, a monumental doorway Rodin worked on for decades and never completed.

Also on view are The Burghers of Calais and Monument to Balzac, along with paintings by Van Gogh and Monet that Rodin collected personally. The museum draws about 700,000 visitors a year.
