The Broad is a contemporary art museum in downtown Los Angeles, opened in 2015 by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. The $140 million building, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, holds nearly 2,000 works by roughly 200 artists and offers free general admission.

The collection is strong in Pop and post-1980s American art, including Andy Warhol's Small Torn Campbell's Soup Can (Pepper Pot) and his Campbell's Soup Can (Clam Chowder). Jean-Michel Basquiat is represented by Untitled (Skull) and Horn Players, two of his most recognized paintings.

Jeff Koons's stainless steel Balloon Dog (Orange) and Robert Therrien's oversized installation Under the Table round out the holdings, which also include the largest public collection of Cindy Sherman photographs in the world.

Visiting The Broad

Yes, general admission to The Broad is always free. However, advance timed tickets are highly recommended as the museum is very popular. Tickets are released monthly on the last Wednesday at 10 AM. Walk-up admission is available but may involve wait times.

The Infinity Mirrored Room by Yayoi Kusama requires a separate free reservation in addition to general admission. These tickets are released nightly for the following day. Each visitor gets about 45 seconds inside the installation.

The Broad was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, who built one of the most important contemporary art collections in the world. The museum opened in 2015 in a building designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
