The Getty Center opened in 1997 on a hilltop in Los Angeles's Brentwood neighborhood. Designed by Richard Meier, the complex cost over $1 billion and took 14 years to build. Its white travertine buildings sit on 110 acres with views stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the San Gabriel Mountains. A free tram carries visitors up from the parking garage. The grounds include a central garden designed by Robert Irwin and outdoor sculpture terraces.
The collection spans European paintings, drawings, sculpture, and decorative arts from the Middle Ages through the early 20th century. Van Gogh's Irises (1889) is the most recognized painting here. Masaccio's St. Andrew represents the early Renaissance, while Impressionist canvases by Monet, Renoir, and Cézanne fill the later galleries. The Getty's photography collection is also one of the world's strongest, with over 150,000 prints. Admission is always free, though parking requires a fee. It's one of the few major art museums in Los Angeles that doesn't charge entry.
Bring luxury art into your home with gallery-worthy canvas prints.
