by Alonso Cano
Alonso Cano depicted this miracle from the life of Saint Isidore the Laborer, patron saint of Madrid. The saint kneels in prayer as water rises miraculously in a well, lifting a child who had fallen in to safety. Cano's dramatic composition emphasizes divine intervention.
Cano was a leading Spanish Baroque painter who also worked as architect and sculptor. His refined style shows Italian influence. Displayed at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
