Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted The Inn of Mother Anthony in 1866, depicting artists gathered at a rustic inn in the forest of Fontainebleau. The informal scene shows friends including Sisley and Monet relaxing after a day of painting outdoors.
This early work predates Renoir's mature Impressionist style but shows his interest in capturing social gatherings. The loose brushwork and warm earth tones hint at his future direction. The painting now hangs at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
