Annibale Carracci completed this somber depiction of the dead Christ. The Italian Baroque master showed the physical reality of death while maintaining a sense of dignity and reverence.
Carracci was a founder of the Bolognese school and influenced generations of artists. This painting is held at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in Germany.
