by Juan Gris
Juan Gris fragmented the figure of a bullfighter in this Cubist composition. The toreador's costume and pose are broken into geometric planes while remaining recognizable. Gris brought clarity and color to the Cubist vocabulary.
The Spanish artist adapted traditional subjects to modern formal experiments. This painting is held at the Musée d'Art moderne de Céret in France.
