Vincent van Gogh completed this study of a dog, rendered with his characteristic expressive brushwork. The animal is depicted with the empathy Van Gogh showed toward all his subjects.
This painting was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990 and remains missing.
