Juan de Juanes painted the burial of Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr. Mourners gather around the body in a scene of grief and devotion. Juanes depicted many episodes from the saint's life.
His work combines Italian Renaissance style with Spanish piety. This painting hangs at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
