Emanuel Leutze depicted the moment when Christopher Columbus appeared before the Spanish court. The painting shows Columbus presenting his case to Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand for his proposed voyage west.
Leutze specialized in dramatic historical scenes. He's best known for Washington Crossing the Delaware. This painting is held at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
