Juan de Juanes completed this El Salvador (The Savior), a devotional image of Christ. The frontal presentation invites direct contemplation. Juanes created numerous such images for private devotion and church altars.
His refined technique and spiritual intensity made him Valencia's most celebrated painter. This work hangs at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
