French artist Maurice Denis painted this Post-Impressionist landscape in 1893, during a personally significant year when he married Marthe Meurier. The scene shows the forest of Kerduel, legendarily associated with King Arthur. A young woman approaches an angel across a low wall, an allegory of spiritual calling within a dreamlike forest.
Denis co-founded the Nabis group, artists who sought to convey spiritual truths through color and simplified forms. This painting summarizes his Symbolist vision, combining real landscape with mystical encounter. Denis valued it highly, depositing it with a gallery in 1917 only to reclaim it the following year, keeping it until his death. The oil on canvas hangs at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Luxury wall art with the same mood and energy. Gallery-quality canvas, no museum crowds.
